Nelina Trubach-Moshnikova Analysis

 Nelina Trubach-Moshnikova - Night City 2
Nelina Trubach-Moshnikova was born in Belarus and later graduated from an art college. She now lives in Crimea. Her work is mainly oil paint on canvas.
In this piece, titled "Night City 2", seems to show a scene of a promenade in the late evening/early night hence its title. It has a mix of bright, cheerful colours and dark colours. It shows people walking in both directions and an illusion of lights on is created with tone.
The painting seems to have been created on a small canvas with exceptional mark making to fit a lot of detail on such a small scale. The lines are very sketchy in this piece adding to the details. In this piece, tone is used to create a feel of a real city at night by the way the colours have blended together. The main colours that have been used are primary and secondary, although there seems to be a large amount of blue in the painting, suggesting a cool, yet slightly busy atmosphere.
I believe this artwork has been composed so that people who view it are drawn into the city scene. They will also be drawn to the building in the background which stands out due to the colours used being warm ones such as red and yellow, which happen to be primary.
I believe this piece was created to show possibly what the artist sees in her daily life. I think this because it looks like a normal city which could be anywhere in the world. This may be what Trubach-Moshnikova wants us to wonder.

  1. Good work Kerri. Can you upload your sketchbook studies of this work and write a few words comparing them? Also, all the artist images that are posted below this need to be fully referenced with a few words to explain why you have chosen them to represent your exam theme
